What a pleasure it would have been to wake up to the smell of coffee made in this brilliantly colored enamel pot. This example dates from the 30's and comes from Provence, France.
Such individuality is found in these old cafetieres. The color of this one is absolutely stunning, in a gradated pattern of French blue and white. Hand applied flowers and leaves in bright poppy red and grass green simply "shout" on the white and blue background. The pot portion has the classic "goose-neck" spout. The filter portion is also decorated with the flower and leaf design. All rims have are accented in poppy red.
The total measurements are: 12" tall, 3 1/2" diameter across the filter, 4 3/4" diameter across the bottom, 8" wide from the outer handle to the spout. It remains in good vintage condition. There are chips and wear to the enamel as is expected with use and age. The painted designs have no color loss. The filter portion has rusted and has worn through in several places on the bottom. The pot appears to have no worn through places (where light shines through).
It is one of the prettiest cafetiere pots that we have seen. The size is charming and the poppy red flowers seem to say "relax and and enjoy the sunshine". It would bring a breath of the warm and fragrant life in Provence to any kitchen, big or small.
