This is a captivating little piece, with unusual accents of hammered brass. It originates from Provence and dates from 1900-1905.
It is made of solid wood stained to a dark chocolate brown. There are four drawers (measuring inside 7" x 3" and 2" deep). The sides of the drawers are thick and solid. Each drawer has two brass drawer rings (3/4" in diameter) which are hung from very ornamental hammered brass plates in a round rosette pattern.
Each side panel has a wide 3/4" hammered brass frame with dots and arching "horseshoe" shapes. There are two brass rosettes at the top and bottom of each panel. The top of the piece is ornamented in the same fashion, with a wide hammered brass frame and one central brass rosette. The bottom "skirt" has a decoratively cut front on three sides. The back panel is solid wood.
It measures: 13" tall, 5 1/2" deep (front to back at bottom skirt) and 9 1/2" wide across front. It is in very good antique condition with light wear in accordance with age. It stands solid and sound.
It is a charming and unique piece to place in a doll vignette. It would also make an adorable small jewelry cabinet.
