This gorgeous pair of candlesticks originate from Paris and date from 1880-1890. They would have been used in a church originally, to ornament one of the Saint statues during festival periods. We sell the candlesticks only, the books are for prop and size comparison.
Each one stands on a wide tiered base. There are four "arms"; one at the center which is straight and three which fan out to the sides. The supports for the candle holders are in the form of twisting ropes and are textured to mimic this material. There are alabaster rings at the base of each holder. The holders have an "urn" shape to them with a wide outward turned lip. On three there are intertwining "ropes" which form curls and heart shapes.
They measure 7 6/8" tall, 4" wide from holder to holder, the base measures 2 3/8" in diameter. The have manuscript writing on the bottom "La paire 7M" (probably an inventory number for the church). They are in sound and good antique condition. They can be polished to a brighter color, we like the patina so we left them as found. The alabaster pieces have no visible cracks or chips.
They are gorgeous with antique books or would look lovely on a small shelf or vanity tray.
