Antique Nineteenth Century French Green Glass and Silver Panier (Basket)

The emerald green color of the glass beautifully sets off the hand painted gilt design. This exquisite basket comes from Paris and dates from 1880-1890.

The basket is made of hand blown glass. An artist has taken great care to paint an extensive design of berries and leaves around the entire piece. The glass cup is set into a silver plate mount, with a fanciful curvy handle. The handle repeats the vine and berry design with a 2-D texture. Around the middle of the silver plate mount of the top is a textured braid which is raised from the flat band.

The basket measures: 3 1/4" tall, with handle fully raised, 7" tall, 4" in diameter at the top and 3" deep. It is in very good and solid condition, with no noticeable cracks or chips. We polished the silver slightly, for the designs to show in our photographs.
