Vintage French Glazed Pottery Wine Jug w/Rope Handle

This beautiful jug has all the charm and character of Provence. It comes from Beziers, France.

Farmhouses in Provence were able to go to a local vineyard to buy wine in bulk, to be put in their own containers. This jug would have once held wine, or olive oil and would have had a fat cork stopper.

There is a fat, twisted rope handle which is threaded through the pottery handles on the jug. It is long enough to put on your shoulder. The French pottery jug has a delicious green color, ranging from emerald to bright leaf green.

It is a nice size, measuring 7 3/4" tall, 21" middle circumference and 7" across (handle to handle). It measures 18" tall including the rope, when the rope is outstretched upward. It survives in excellent condition, with no visible cracks.

It is the perfect size to use in a French Country kitchen design.
