Vintage French Advertising Sign "Doullie Soughaye" circa 1930-1940
We have not found the company written in script at the top of the sign so we can only guess of the product that is being advertised. The sign is made of a very heavy cardboard, rigid and almost wood-like. The design on the front features a handsome young man in a red waistcoat and black top hat who shields a beautiful Madamoiselle from the pelting rain. She wears a very typical dress with from the 1900 period. She has a fancy hat and dainty gloved hands. Her dress is in French blue with a beige silk underskirt. Faintly in the background, we can see large flower petals and buds. Images of three pink ribbons seem to tie together the "pages" of the "book".
The back of the sign is plain. The edges follow the design and give a 2-D effect to the appearance. It measures:13" x 10 1/4" at the widest points. It is in very good condition. There is very light wear to the corners as is typical with age. The image design is in marvelous condition, with brilliant colors and no fading.
To find an advertising sign in this amazing condition is rare in today's market. It is a true Parisian treasure.
