This beautiful and still useful little case dates from the 1940's. It comes from Paris.
The case is bronze. The lid features an inset piece of French Art glass. This was a popular art form during this period of French decorative arts. Both enamel and colored glass are heated and melted together to form a design, in this case a large bouquet of flowers. The pink, blue and white flowers have orange centers and are placed on a clear orange background (which reflects with gold highlights). The lid of the case has a repeating wave pattern which frames the glass nicely.
The case opens with a latch to reveal five compartments for holding powered makeup. The original mirror is still intact and the hinges and lids of the covered compartments are in working order.
The bottom of the case has a ribbed design, the sides are smooth.
The case is in very good condition. There are two very slight chips to the top right corner of the inset art glass but this is normal for the age of the piece and does not detract from the design. The bronze is tarnished and can be polished to it's original brilliance (we chose to leave this decision to the final owner). The interior is in very good condition, the case is solid and very useable. It measures: 4 5/8" wide, 3 1/4" deep and 3/4" tall.
