An adorable little accessory for a lovely French doll, it is filled with accessories for the doll's doll! It comes from Paris, France.
The case is made of hard paper board, which has been covered with crimson red paper and then shellacked (the exact color is the box when closed, when open, the exterior appears a little darker). It has a long, leather handle which has two metal brads. The parts which make up the box and lid are hand-sewn together. There are two travel stickers on the case, one a steamship name and cabin number (Belfort 605) and another with the number 65.
The original owner used this little carry along to store her own French bisque doll! There little doll has a lovely fabric dress and a beautiful lace collar. The little doll's left hand is broken off (sadly), but the rest of her body is in good condition. Her facial features are painted with finesse, she has painted white boots with blue trim on her feet.
Her rectangular mattress and silk pillow are trimmed in lace. The bed folds in half to fit in the box. There is a little blue floral cotton hanky with lace trim attached to the top. There are three glass milk bottles with painted brown glass tops (they are open at the top...you can see down to the bottom of the bottles).
The case measures:2 1/2" tall, 3 3/4" in circumference. The mattress: 6" x 3 1/4": the doll: 2 5/8" tall.
The case is in good condition for it's delicate nature. There is one slight split in the top edge (1/4"...see picture) but it remains solid and useable. The little bisque doll is in good shape except for the hand. The bed is lightly soiled but in good condition.
It is a unique and amusing accessory, just waiting for a new lady to love it and the little doll inside!
