Little Red Riding Hood strolls in the forest on the front of this beautiful French enamel pail. The creme enamel tin comes from Provence and dates from 1920.
A hand painted scene from the much-loved fairy tale includes the infamous wolf, with red eyes and tongue gazing hungrily at Little Red Riding Hood, who skips along dreamily. The pail has a wide, curved lip which is ornamented with a French green stripe. There is a lid with a small knob handle. The lid is also ornamented with a French green stripe.
The pail has a metal handle with a wooden holder. It attaches to two "O" shaped enamel rings on each side of the pail.
The pail is in solid condition. We have placed water inside and found no leaks. There are small bits of enamel chipping, and rust/wear at the outside bottom. There is some rust/wear along the inside bottom. The wear is in keeping with the age of the piece. It measures: 8 1/4" tall, 8 1/2" wide across the top, 7" wide across the bottom. The interior is 8" deep.
It is very unusual and whimsical piece. It would be fabulous in a French kitchen, holding utensils with red handles!
