Covered in silk embroidered damask and framed in metal braid, this lovely screen is the perfect backdrop for a beautiful French fashion doll. It comes from Paris and dates from 1900-1910.
Beautiful accessories such as this were all the rage in Paris in the early 1900's. The manufacture of exquisite and lifelike dolls gave birth to an industry which catered to manufacturing gorgeous accessories.
This standing screen has been carefully made by hand, with the most elegant of materials available. The two back panels are covered in silk damask with a deep black background and colorful flowers of coral, pink, red, white and pale blue. Green leaves and vines cascade throughout the design. The panels are framed in 1/2" wide gilt metal and fabric braid.
The interior panels are of ivory silk damask, each panel has three pockets in which to place doll clothing accessories such as gloves, scarves and handkerchiefs (we pictured a white handkerchief in one of the photos). The interior panels are completely bordered with matching gilt metal and fabric braid. The screen is tall, measuring 13" high at the center point and 17" wide when folded out completely.
It is in very good condition for the age and delicate fabrics used. There is normal light wear to the edges of the braid and fabric, but this is very light and in keeping with the age of the piece. The colors have held their brilliant hues and there is little fading or fraying to the fabric or braid. The gilt braid still shimmers like a jewel in the light.
It is a unique and beautiful item, waiting to serve a lovely Parisian lady!
