Vintage 1940's Czech. Porcelain Cafe Canister

This is one of the most colorful jars of this type that we have found. It was made in Czechoslovakia and dates from the mid 1940's.

A beautiful basket of flowers ornaments the center. Yellow and pink roses, blue forget-me-nots, peonies and pink rosebuds spill forth over the narrow brown basket base. A wide design to the left and right is done in bands of French blue with pink roses on a rich black background. The work "Cafe" is written in French.

The canister and lid are solid porcelain. The design is transfer work, which was very popular in this time period both in Europe and in America. The bottom of the piece is stamped "made in Czechoslovakia". It measures: 6 1/2" tall, 3 1/2" wide and 2 1/2" deep. It remains in very good condition, with no noticeable cracks or chips to the enamel.

It is a charming piece for a kitchen to hold coffee or any small kitchen items.
