Lord Elgin Self Winding Watch
While the name Elgin is synonymous with an 'everyman's' watch, they also made an upscale line called Lord Elgin that competed with some of the pricier watches of the time. This watch, which dates back to the 1960s, is a fine example of the enduring quality that was produced by the company. The design of the watch is simplicity itself, with a simple round bezel and back made of stainless steel attached to a simple Kreisler expansion band. The beauty of this watch is in its 25 jewel self winding movement that keeps time very accurately, even after about 50 years. Note the textured dial with its raised hour markers, and the classic 1960s styling of the quadrant number.
As with any mechanical watch, the movement should be professionally cleaned, oiled and adjusted every few years to maintain its accuracy and reliability.
The watch comes in an unmarked watch case of the period that is suitable as a gift box for the watch, or a means of displaying it. This Lord Elgin watch is sure to be a treasured timepiece for years to come.
