Antique Hand Turned Treen Spill Holder or Vase

Fine quality Treen Spill Holder or Vase as they were often called, this dates to the early to mid 1800's and is a fine example with the most beautiful Ornamental Turnery. This has the most fabulous colour and patina as you can see from the photographs with a beautiful range of colours that have developed over the years.

No household would have been without a Spill holder this is Vase or Goblet shaped although distinguishable from a goblet by the wide rim at the top as this would have been impossible to drink from. Spills were used to light the fires that were the only form of heating and were made from either small thin strips of wood or rolled paper and there needed to be a supply of them so these holders were essential in every household.

This is all turned out from one piece of wood so made by a real craftsman. there are some nibbles to the base but these are all clearly shown in the photos. I absolutely adore this piece and if you collect Treen then this is a fabulous piece for your collection or what a fantastic piece to start a collection with.

The measurements are approx 4/25" high and 2.5" across the base.
