Beautiful cutlery set comprised of 2 piece place settings for 12, comprised of dinner and dessert knives in one of Emile Puiforcat's most loved patterns. Elegant ebony handles capped with graceful swans, wings spread wide and high, sweeping across the base of the tip, the heads atop sinuous lithe necks. Above the swans, laurel swags. The ferrules decorated with a laurel wreath on both sides, the crown of victory. The blades of the dessert knives are gilt sterling silver, vermeil. There is a sterling interlaced monogram decoratively displayed within the ebony handle (initials GF??) Condition is very good to excellent. The set comes with a period walnut box, lined in blue satin, all in good condition. The brass cartouche without monogram. The box is not original to the set.
Dimensions:The dinned knives are 9.5" long and 0.75" wide, the dessert knives 7 7/8" long, 3/8" wide. Box: 14" wide, 9" back to front, and 2.5" high. Marks: The blades of the dessert knives bear the maker's punch for Emile Puiforcat and the French .950 sterling standard; the Minerve 1st titre. The steel blades of the dinner knives have the name Puiforcat enscribed in script.
