Utterly unique and quite magnificent set of 6 silver salt cellars in Renaissance Style repousse, with partial gilt decoration. The textured silver ground of the salt cellars decorated with griffins, strapping and cartouches, all plated with 18k gold. The base are gilt and fluted; and the top edged with a golden rim. All but one come with glass liners; and I added crystal salt spoons to complete the set. Condition is very good. Some minor tarnish in places (otherwise known as aged patina), and again, one liner missing. I didn't want to polish too vigorously, as the patina is so lovely. There is no maker's mark. The silver specialists I've consulted with think the set is Viennese. Each salt is marked 800 silver. Altogether, this is a rare and finely crafted set of salt cellars.
Dimensions: the cellars are 1.5" tall, 2" at the widest, and each weighs 30 grams. The glass spoons are 2.5" long. The glass liners extend over the pearl edges of the cellars.
