PUIFORCAT : Antique French Sterling & Vermeil Japanisme Cup & Saucer

A beautiful and very rare antique French Japanisme style sterling silver cup and saucer set, finely decorated with meticulously detailed branches of flowering cherry blossom, insects, and bird. Both cup interior and underside of the saucer are in vermeil (18K gold plated silver). The cup features a foliate capped scroll handle, and a cartouche bearing the initials “GR). Each piece is stamped with the French Minerve 1st standard (.950) mark, and maker’s mark for celebrated Parisian silversmith Emile PUIFORCAT, who commenced trading in 1857. The cup measures 2,5” high, saucer has a 4,5” diameter, and the silver weight is 134 grams. This sublime example of 19th century Japanisme silverware is in excellent condition with just light signs of use to note. Shipment will be from France.
