Absolutely magnificent and uniquely styled GUSTAVE ODIOT centerpiece, crafted in solid french .950 sterling silver. The outer shallow bowl, the base, edged with generously gold plated (vermeil) decoration including: finely chased shells, lamberkins, rocailles and floral foliate accents. This large outer base spans a 12" diameter, raised to a height of 1.75". A solid sterling silver inner fitted bowl has two small handles, pure elegant lines, a diameter of 9.75" and height of .75". This construction imminently practical, as the insert preserves the perfection of the more decorative outer dish while facilitating ease of use and cleaning. French silvermarks do not include year marks. But until 1895, the Odiot stamp in use is the punch on both dishes offered here; so we know the piece dates prior to 1885. After 1895, a "PR" was added below the lamp. Both dishes also bear the French .950 parts silver sterling guarantee; the Minerve 1st titre. There is a small, discreet monogram and crest on one side of the outer dish. Combined weight: 1455 grams, or 51 ounces.
A rare offering, in like new condition, of the finest craftsmanship and pedigree; exactly the sort of sterling silver nonpareil we want you to associate with Bonheur du Jour.
