Antique Miniature Painting on Porcelain of Raphael's Madonna of the Chair - Gilt Metal Frame
This 19th century devotional composition serves as a portable altarpiece. When opened, it reveals a fine miniature painting based on the original Madonna della Seggiola by the Italian Renaissance master Raphael Sanzio da Urbino.
This extraordinary hand painted porcelain plaque is set within an intricately pierced and engraved gilt metal frame.
The painting is beautifully executed, and the colors are rich and vibrant. The convex porcelain plaque is in excellent condition with no damage. The gilt metal frame has typical surface wear consistent with age.
The original Madonna of the Chair (Madonna della Seggiola or Madonna della Sedia) is housed in the Palazzo Pitti, Florence Italy.
