Antique French Palais Royal White Opaline Scent Bottle with Dore Bronze Mounts
France, 19th century
This lovely translucent white opaline scent is enhanced with intricately engraved dore bronze mounts.
Opaline glass (or cristal d' opale) first appeared in France during the Empire period and reached its peak of popularity during the reign of Napoleon III.
Fine objets d'art such as this would have been sold in one of the famous Palais Royal shops of Paris as a luxurious memento for a well-to-do Grand Tour traveler.
These delightful 19th century Palais Royal treasures are highly collectible today.
The opaline scent bottle is in excellent condition. There is one tiny separation in the dore bronze - visible in the fifth photograph. This scent bottle is a beautiful example of French opaline art glass.
