Antique Miniature Painting Madonna and Child with Saint John the Baptist
This painting is a beautiful depiction of The Madonna and Child with Saint John the Baptist after Alessandro di Mariano di Vanni Filipepi, better known as Sandro Botticelli. Hand painted on a thin natural wafer, the miniature is set within a burl wood veneer and bronze ormolu frame under convex glass. The painting is signed R. S. by the artist.
The miniature painting is beautifully executed, and the colors are rich and vibrant. Both the painting and frame are in very good condition. The burl wood shows minute shrinkage on the lower left. The painting is extraordinary in both color and detail.
Sandro Botticelli was an Italian painter of the Florentine school during the Early Renaissance. The original Madonna and Child with Saint John the Baptist was painted in 1468 and is housed in the Musée du Louvre, Paris, France.
