Antique French Enamel Figural Opera Glasses with Mother of Pearl
France, 19th century
These rare 19th century Napoleon III era French opera glasses are enameled in the Sevres style with hand painted scenes of romantic figures within a pastoral landscape setting. The platinum colored barrels are decorated in the extremely labor intensive process of painted enamelwork (the firing of glass over a metal base). The opera glasses are faceted with luxurious mother of pearl eyepieces. They are marked Audemair Paris.
The elegant French enamel opera glasses are of high quality and are in very good condition. There is no damage to the enamel barrels. There is a small scratch (minor) in the enamel glaze which appears to be a kiln firing flaw. This is not a crack or stress line. It is shown in magnification in our photographs.
