Hens and Chickens Ducks and Ducklings Wild Goose Chase Quilt
Wonderful pattern, wonderful quilt! Unequal nine patch pattern called Hens and Chickens or Ducks and Ducklings in 1859 or also referred to as Wild Goose Chase. This beautiful quilt is hand pieced and elaborately hand quilted 8 to 9 stitches to the inch in a tight fan pattern. The fabrics date from the late 19th century and include double or cinnamon pinks, shirting prints, cadet blue, calico, ginghams and stripes. It measures 75" x 81", with a lighter weight cotton batting. The pink edge binding is new, machine zigzag stitched over the old cinnamon pink binding which is still visible in places on the back. It's in excellent condition, given its age. I have carefully hand washed it and air dried it. Other than three tiny rust spots on the back, there are no stains. There's some minor disintegration of fabric in a few patches of six blocks, mostly near one corner, but overall, in great condition. A gorgeous addition to your American quilt or folk art collection, to use or display. Very shabby romantic cottage chic.
