Turn of the Century Nine Patch and Green Patchwork Quilt What a soft old friend! This is a wonderful and charming quilt with very gentle look and feel. There are nine patch pattern blocks made with a pretty variety of late 19th and early 20th century cotton fabrics. It's like a scrapbook of the fabrics the quilter had in her sewing scrap basket, including shirting, calico, floral, gingham, woven stripes, solids and more. These alternate with solid blocks of jade green which is also used as the border and to bind the edges. The blocks are 4 1/2" square. The backing fabric is natural muslin. It's hand pieced and hand quilted 6 stitches to the inch. The batting is medium weight cotton. It measures 73" x 73". Condition is very good for such an old timer. There's typical wear to a few of the pieces of black and white mourning prints (see pics) and a few small rust spots visible on back/ Otherwise, no obvious flaws I can find.
