Antique Victorian Edwardian White Lawn & Lace Peignoir Set

I'm delighted to present this stunning ladies peignoir set from the late Victorian to early Edwardian era. Consisting of an elaborately lace trimmed white fine lawn or batiste cotton dressing gown with high waist, leg-o-mutton sleeves, full flowing back, very large fancy collar and a matching night gown with lace yoke. Both have yellow gold satin ribbon accents which run in and out of the lace and bows. Both pieces have tucked and ruffled lace edged hems. Lawn is a lightweight, sheer cloth which is crisper than voile but not as crisp as organdy, it is known for its semi-transparency, which can range from gauzy to sheer. The dressing gown and nightgown are beautifully made and the work is a combination of fine tucking and a variety of lace insetting or insertions. The dressing gown has a large collar with square ends filled with a variety of lace and ribbons, the bodice has vertical tucks to a small yoke, a drawstring ribbon waist, which threads through the gown on the front and ties with a bow and is just a band at the back so the back fabric flows or floats away separately. The front is open down to the middle of the skirt and fastens up the front with 6 mother of pearl buttons. The very puffy sleeves are edged with a generous amount of lace at the cuffs. The nightgown is gathered into the yoke. There is no size label, measurements are as follows: Please rely on these measurements for sizing. They have been carefully hand washed, line dried and ironed. The only flaw I can find is one very very tiny darn in front of the nightgown. A truly amazing and beautiful peignoir set of antique lingerie. Wonderful for a wedding, honeymoon or bridal gift.
