A vintage 18K HGE tiered Cats eye and rhinestone cocktail ring. The "HGE" stands for hard gold electroplated, the 18k refers to the type of plating, not that the piece of jewelry is actually 18k gold. In other words jewelry that is stamped 18k HGE is gold plated costume jewelry, as this lovely ring is. It is a classic 15mm X 11mm marquis shaped open work design with tiered 2mm chaton cut crystal rhinestones culminating with a gorgeous 7mm marquis shape fuchsia pink cats eye stone as the focal point.
The ring is stamped 18K HGE as well as an `A' inside a circle which is the mark for Aurora jewelry Co.Providence RI first used September 1954 a little more puzzling is another stamp CCI which is the mark for Comstock Creations of Durango Co since 1982. Since the 18K HGE and the `circle A' stamp are well worn I would hazard a guess that the CCI mark was stamped at a later date Why? I don't know.
This is a very well made ring in excellent condition with only minimal signs of wear on the outside bottom of the band where it would get the most abuse and this is only visible under high magnification. The ring is sized at 5.
