Antique Meissen Style, Dresden Figure of a young Bacchus with a wreath of grapes & leaves surrounding his head with a glass of wine and a pitcher full of wine while sitting on a plinth with one leg under a leopard skin covering with grape & leaves on his lap.. He seems content! The Plinth has different designs on all 4 sides of musical instrument and ribbons, accented in 24 K. gold. There are hairline restorations on his face, body and leg; very stable & secure. Marked on the inner plinth with crossed swords and a T & with a dot. While searching we found a similar plinth with two figure on top, on this site that I have included in the last photo ( "comparable") The listing says "c1740 Meissen". We are not certain of this date for Bacchus. very fine detailed work, so approximately 1860 or earlier..Measures 5 3/4"H. X 2 1/4"W. X 2 1/4"D. Just found another listing, "1741 Meissen Venus..." with a similar plinth.. so we are thinking this too is 1740s. Any information is certainly appreciated.. Thanks A Ruby Lane member was kind to say that this figurine is a Carl Thieme..
