Art Deco Bookends, "Flute Player" 1920's
One nice matched pair of old bookends that stylistically meld elements of Deco with Mission. The "muses and nature" seemed to be a favorite theme back then and these bookends of flute-playing woman piping away in sylvan glens certainly evokes the contemplative spirit for musing.
Cast of copper plated iron which is burnished with age, the set measures 5-3/8" X 5-3/8" and is heavy enough to hold a cluster of small to medium sized volumes. The bottoms still have the original felt.
As if you were in any doubt as to subject, the manufacturers have kindly embossed the "FLUTE PLAYER" on the stippled backside or each.
