Here's a curious old estate piece with some attractive detail work in the marked "STERLING" setting. It is set with 30 uncolored faceted gems along the top and bottom and 7 larger ones in the middle. The two largest end stones are 3.5mm (3/16 carat), the center three are 3mm (1/8 carat). In addition to the stones varying from brilliant colorless to grayish, one of the biggest central ones is very dark gray like an iolite. We can't tell you what kind of gems they are, only what they aren't -- diamonds. The back of the pin is closed behind the stones so light doesn't pass through and sparkle much. It measures 2-5/8" by 9/16". Other than a tiny tweak on one of the openwork edges and smooth wear and a couple of tiny scratches, it is in excellent condition. The pin opens and closes smoothly and latches securely. What ever the pin is, it is definitely old, mostly likely from the 1800's.
