McCoy Urn Vase "Burgundy Sand" 1946
Heavily built large vase of simple design in a rich burgundy color. Weighty enough to handle a generous spray of reeds or cattails. There is no damage--chips, cracks, etc., but numerous small bubbles in the glaze and minor variations in the color that are all natural to the hand-thrown process. Has the McCoy mark and USA on the bottom. There are several good-sized white patches that show up in the photographs that look like big chips but they are not damage, merely color voids under the glaze. Measures 12" tall by 9" diameter but comes across as much larger because of the hefty construction.
A splendid classical-contemporary vessel that really makes a design statement!
