A large old map of "The Gulf of Mexico, the ISLANDS and COUNTRIES adjacent. For the Rev. Dr. Robertson's History of America. By Thos. Kitchin Senr. Hydrographer to His Majesty".

It measures 13-1/2" X 21-1/2" and depicts the Southern coast of North America, Baja. Central Americas, north coastal South America, The Caribbean islands, the Gulf, etc. as they were known in 1777.

There is a very decorative cartouche in the top right as well as a handsome directional compass rose. The bottom left corner contains the distance scale in miles and leagues = degrees.

This copper plate engraved map was printed in London by Stahan & T. Cadellin on cotton hand-layed paper.
