Roman Redware Jug 300 AD Excavated From Haidra Tunisa

A slender unglazed pottery vessel with loop handle measures 10" tall and is unrestored and uncleaned. A moderate amount of mineral and site encrustation is present. There are several small old chips on the rim of the base and a tiny one on the top rim, otherwise it is in remarkable condition. The jug was reportedly discovered in the ruins of the Augustan city of Ammaedara (modern "Haidra"). The city was founded in 30 BC by the Third Augustan Legion and subsisted on into the Byzantine era. The vessel was formerly in a collection from Swindon England.
