Brad Keeler Chinese Boy with Basket Chinese Kids 1940's

Wonderful little Brad Keeler figurine from his whimsical 1940's line of lovable Chinese Kids posed with their baskets. The kids often had a bit of their little bare behind showing and this guy is no exception. This hard to find California Pottery Brad Keeler figurine planter is 5-1/2" tall by 4" wide, marked with 3 ink stamped lines, B.B.Keeler, Copyrighted, 605. Excellent condition, just some light crazing, no nicks, chips or cracks.

Brad Keeler was born in Lincoln, CA, where his father was a ceramic engineer for the local Gladding-McBean plant. After studying art at USC, Keeler opened his own Glendale studio where he created naturalistic figures of birds and animals. Business was good and Keeler was expanding, building a larger factory in San Juan Capistrano in 1952, when tragically a heart attack claimed his life at the young age of 39. The company couldn't survive the loss and closed its doors in 1953.
