Celluloid and Bakelite Handcrafted Button Bracelet "Ready to Rhumba"
It is big, it is funky and and it is chunky. The three larger buttons are 1 7/8" in diameter! They are the celluloid "wafer" buttons, so stylish in the 1930's into the 1940's. Celluloid is an early plastic and was used in movie film, beautiful art deco vanity sets, the famous "Cupie Doll" and even today as ping pong balls. The wafer celluloid buttons here are slightly thicker and stronger. They are still light in weight and have great pressed relief design. Bakelite is a much stronger early plastic and was used in radio housing, made into kitchen utensil handles , wonderful jewelry and buttons and other uses. I love the earthy rich colors and the creamy feel to bakelite. Two of the top buttons in the large stackings are bakelite.. the dark red and the dark orange ones. The other top button is a more modern plastic with a beautiful and very unusual designed finish. The three inter-spacing stations are celluloid with bakelite balls, and the under-buttons are antique bone. The under-buttons allow the piece to sit comfortably upon the wrist. Every button is connected by a sewing method with strong stretch magic cording. None are glued on at all.
Ready to Rhumba will best fit wrist sizes from 6 1/4" loose to 7 3/4" snug.
