1955 Miriam Haskell Brooch *Sublime Detail

This is to my eye some of Frank Hess's finest work. So incredibly hand detailed that it weighs a substantial 36 grams. Measuring 2 7/8" x 1 1/2", the matching necklace in earrings can be found gracing page 43 of Deanna Farnetti Cera's book, Costume Jewelry The Jewels of Miriam Haskell. The earrings were featured in the New York Times Magazine in October of 1955, so we have achieved identifying the elusive date of release. Haskell retained no archives, used some jewelry elements for decades, and did not patent or copyright until the 1980's. Unless we can find the original purchaser or locate an advertisement, we are often left pondering the age of our precious pieces!

Fashioned from faux baroque pearls and a ribbed gold plated chain that matches the necklace chain and surrounded by gold plated leaves.

Signed Miriam Haskell.

In nearly excellent vintage condition; as we usually find, it does have some gold loss but it has a beautifully aged and even patina. Upon rigorous examination one sees approximately 10% or so enamel loss to the baby baroque glass pearls. Some verdigris in the wiring also seen on closeup but only in the creases.
