Reserved Tara... an extraordinary Chinese ensemble to add to a treasured collection. If not for the adorable little satchel, we would call these pajamas. More likely they are casual wear. Nevertheless, they are in wonderful condition. The hand sewing at the seams is REMARKABLY fine and precise, painstakingly executed by a phenomenal seamstress. The fabric is a black lightweight silk bordered in a vibrant orange silk, with orange silk- black cuffed pants. Adorned with three sprawling satin embroidered five-claw dragons on the robe and one on the blouse (colors of yellow, orange white, red and black). Fire, clouds, lotus blossoms and other Chinese symbols are embroidered throughout and even on the cuffs of the pants. It is rare to find a complete set in such impeccable condition. Dare to wear all four to dazzle, or more conservatively wear one fantastic piece at a time.
Measurements: Robe 42" long from shoulder to hem; 46" across the chest, measured under the arms; Top 24 1/2" long from shoulder to hem; 40" across the chest and 42" around the bottom hem; Pants waist measures 40" (without elastic or drawstring), 46" hips, 38" long, 22" inseam, 18" around at the bottom hem of each leg; satchel measures 10" across, 8" high.
Condition report: Excellent! Small caveats- missing elastic waist band on the pants and a couple of stitches required at the top of the inseam; when the robe is held to the light, very small areas of the black silk are more sheer than the rest of the robe (less than 1/2" inch each), as if the wefts have shifted. This is not noticeable when worn. Fleabites on silk lining of one of the buttons on the satchel. These pieces were lovingly stored and show no other signs of wear and tear. Great Chinese textile art and a truly enviable ensemble.
