Oil on canvas painting listed 20th Century artist Alfredo Buenaventura
I am offering these as a pair. Both works are oil on canvas, the vertical format of fishermen and their nets measuring 25" by 19" framed, and the painting of stooped figures in the field or rice paddy measures 25 " by 13 " framed. Both are signed at lower left by the Filipino artist Alfredo Buenaventura. The Buenaventura's of the Philippines were prolific artists, Cesar and Alfredo having produced many works in oil, painted usually with palette knife. Works by Cesar and Teodoro Buenaventura, (the latter I think was the father of Cesar and Alfredo), have sold at auctions in Asia and America. The present works are in very good condition. The fishermen piece has some rippling of the canvas because it needs to be tightened on the stretcher; the field workers piece likewise is a bit loose on the stretcher, and there are two pressure bulges, but they are not easily seen, hidden in the busy brushstrokes.
