As a textile art form and wearing apparel, serapes were developed and utilized in the late 17th, 18th and 19th century with a rapid decline in the early 20th century. They reflect a merging of cultures, arts, crafts and weaving techniques of both the aboriginal and European inhabitants of Mexico and feature traditional designs hundreds of years old. This serape is in excellent condition, it retains both suppleness and integrity of the cloth and the vibrancy of the dyes. There is a small amount of color bleed It measures aprox 40" wide by 78" long. The fringes are 4" long.
