This square shaped bowl has scalloped edges and a beautiful flower on the inside of the bowl, which I can not name. The colorings of this piece are mainly in the browns, yellows and light orange hues. The flower is a plum color with green and pale yellow touches. Green and brown leafs surround half of the inside of the bowl. The outer bottom half of the bowl and the bottom is a cream color.
The marking is a Noritake green marking is the "M" for Morimura in a wreath, crowned by "NORITAKE" and below, "Hand painted" and 3/4"Made in Japan". This mark was registered in 1918 and seems to have come in to used in the early 1920's when it was used until 1940. Backstamps after 1921 state "Japan" or "Made in Japan."
One of the most important contributions of Noritake china to the world of porcelain was the development of this particular glazing technique involved the use of a bright, single-color glaze covered by a thin metallic film. The result was a iridescence that gave these pieces of Noritake china a rainbow-like sheen.
This bowl measures 5.53/4"L x 5.53/4"W x 2.53/4"H. The finish is like new with the exception of a couple tiny surface nicks on the edge. A wonderful find and great item to add to your collection.
