This charming Colonial Dame could be Martha Washington. She has a very expressive hand painted face. Her yarn hair is pulled back under a voile gathered cap. The cap has slightly yellowed over the years but could be easily removed and cleaned. Her body is firmly stuffed white cotton. She wears a dress of print cotton with a pannier style at each side. Crinoline under the sides of the skirt show the fullness. She wears tiny black shoes with stitched gold buckles. Her pantaloons are scalloped at the edges. She appears to have been done by an artist and is probably part of a cottage industry. She has no visible markings. There is no damage or repair except the yellowing of the voile on her hat. She is 9 1/2" tall.
