This piece is a Hand Painted Nippon Hair Receiver. The colors are fantastic! Very bright! This piece measures 4 1/4" wide, 2 1/4" tall and has a 13" diameter. This piece is back stamped with the blue #47 M in wreath stamp per Joan Van Pattens Collectors Encyclopedia of Nippon Porcelain, 6th series. The piece dates between 1911 and 1921. Hair receivers were a typical dresser item during this time and a lady would routinely brush her hair and put the felled hair pieces into the receiver. After a time, she would collect the hair and make pretty decorations out of them. Some ladies would border a picture in a locket or braid hair pieces to put back into their own hair! This is a true find and a great piece for a Nippon collector!
