18th Century Primitive Wrought Iron Rushlight Candlestick

An amazing 18th Century Rushlight such as this would have been used to hold a piece of burning rush or splint within the jaws, the attached counterbalance would have been used to put pressure on the weight of one of the opposing pincher jaws helping to secure said rush in place.

This lamp features an additional candle socket. Overall beautiful form with an unusual spiral base. All twisted wrought iron that was handcrafted by an early blacksmith.

In very good condition with slight pitting consistent with its age. Definitely a must have for any early lighting collecting. 11-1/2"H x 7"W at biggest point.
