Wendy GELL's Disney figures are highly coveted for their imagination and unique take on beloved Disney characters. Ann Mitchell Pitman's "Inside the Jewelry Box, Volume 2" has a section on Wendy Gell from pages 17-21, with some pins similar to this one on pages 20-21. This particular pin is Minnie Mouse (or else Mickey in drag!) as a flapper, with a feathered fuchsia and red rhinestone hat, a fuchsia pink rhinestone boa and then ruby red rhinestone shoes. She is 3" tall and 2" wide and seems to be waving a greeting to the rest of her Disney pals. Her face and body are painted with a flat enamel.
Gell began designing jewelry over 30 years ago and had a five year relationship with Disney from 1985-1990. Gell recounts that "the pins were so popular that they sold completely out before I could get my hands on one." Wendy is still creating jewelry, but is widely considered a "contemporary great" in glitzy jewelry design. Her jewelry has been featured in countless magazines and collectors are a "who's who" of famous women, ranging from Madonna to Hillary Clinton.
