This vintage, signed Hattie CARNEGIE clear rhinestone giraffe figural pin is in excellent condition! The giraffe has a strong 3-D effect with all four legs in motion and its tail flying behind. The head, legs and tail are all gold toned, while the body is completely encrusted in bright, clear rhinestones with black enamel spots. There is a tiny red rhinestone eye. Hattie made several "jungle theme" figurals – all of which are fabulous, fun to wear and which share the same rhinestone or faux pearl and enamel style. A zebra in this style appears in the book Collecting Costume Jewelry 101 by Julia Carroll on page 137. The Hattie Carnegie tiger, which also seems to be part of this series, is also available in my shop.
Measurements: He is 2 1/4" tall and 2 1/2" wide from front leg to the tail.
Condition: This giraffe is in fabulous condition with shiny gold tone metal, and very bright rhinestones. Please review all photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the description. It can be a challenge to get the colors accurate on clear rhinestones, the first picture shows the colors best.
Marks: "Hattie Carnegie" in script is on one cartouche; and a second cartouche has the copyright symbol, which dates this post-1955. Hattie Carnegie jewelry dates from 1939 to the 1970's.
