This is the historically significant, 1941 Coro Multi Flag "Amigos Siempre" Pin. The flag contains 21 North, Central and South American flags and the words "Amigos Siempre", which is Spanish for "Always Friends". It was created to commemorate the Eighth International Conference of American States which was held in Lima in 1938.
Measurements: The pin is 2 1/2" tall and 2 1/8". It has a very substantial feel to it.
Condition: This Coro flag pin is in good condition considering it's 70 years old! There are spots of wear on the enameled flags and the metal flag posts have darkened a bit. The back of the pin has some scuffing. Please use the zoom feature to review all photographs carefully, as they are an important part of the description.
Marks: "CORO" in slant script. Lester Gaba designed this pin for Coro, filed for the patent on Nov. 17, 1941 and received patent number 130,836 on Dec. 23, 1941. The pin was sold and the royalties were donated to the Inter-American Scholarship Fund. It is a very famous pin with limited availability.
Book Piece References: This pin is featured in the class resources: Brunialti's "American Costume Jewelry" and in Brunialti's "A Tribute to America." It also merits its own full page (192) in Marcia "Sparkles" Brown's book "Coro Jewelry" (2005 ed.), valued at $450.00
