Pair Antique Miniature Indian Portraits c.1900 Shah Jehan & Mumtaz Mahal

This pair of Indian miniature portraits depict Shah Jehan and his wife Mumtaz Mahal. Shah Jahan (1592-1666) was the 5th Emperor of the Mogul Empire and built the Taj Mahal as a memorial to his wife. The portraits are painted in gouache. The fine detail of this pair far exceeds many of this type you'll find. The costumes and jewelry are richly colored and highlighted with gold. The paintings are housed in oval brass frames. Both are in excellent condition. The easel stand of one frame leans back further than the other. Measurements are approximately 4.5" x 3.5", 4" x 3' image.
