Antique Lithophane Candle Screen c.1860 ~ KPM Porcelain Lithopane

This iron screen was designed to display a porcelain lithophane plaque in front of a candle or window. The stand can be adjusted in height by means of a thumb screw in back. Lithophanes are interesting in that they look totally different when lit from behind. When seen lit from the front they're a bit plain, but light them from behind and an amazingly detailed picture is seen. This plaque was made by KPM porcelain. The back is impressed with a scepter and KPM. There are marks along with a letter or symbol impressed below that, but it's difficult to decipher. The scene is of a woman and a man (holding a rifle) either greeting each other or saying good bye. Their cute pup is drinking from the bucket in her hand. A townscape is in the background. This piece is in very good condition. No chips or cracks in the plaque. No damage to the iron stand. The plaque is not easily removed from the stand so it will be secured within it for shipping. The plaque measures approximately 4.5" x 6". The stand is about 13.5" tall at its lowest and about 18.5" at the tallest.
