This pretty dough bowl has been treated to a 'Sunday' painting by some young Victorian gal. Sunday painting is the name given to all those lovely paintings of flowers, fruit, etc. that were such a popular Victorian pastime in the late 19th to early 20th centuries. The bowl this was painted in is a beautifully shaped, hand carved dough bowl. This beautiful football shape is fairly uncommon. The pansies are painted in purples, yellows and whites against a dark mottled background. The exterior of the bowl is black. Currently there is a wire on the back for hanging. It's attached with tacks so can easily be removed. The bowl and painting are in very good condition. There is light edge wear and minor chips in the painting as you might expect. Measurements are 17" x 10" x 3" tall.
