Large Antique Adirondack Pack Basket c.1900
I have to say, this is one of the nicest Adirondack pack baskets I've come across. It's big, sturdy, nicely shaped and has all of its original leather straps. It's made of ash splint and has a nice thick rim and wonderful hand carved handle. This one was probably made in the late 1800's. It was found at the family homestead in upstate New York where it had always been. It's in very good condition with minimal wear to the splint. I found just one broken splint inside the pack behind the handle. The leather straps are strong and complete. They have what looks like old wax or something similar that has beaded on the surface, probably from the heat during storage. It does seem it could be removed with some effort if it bothers you. I did say this was big. It's 20" tall to the rim, 18" wide and 13" deep. It sits beautifully on the floor or table for display.
