This type of measure was used for measuring grains and other dry goods in the 19th century. This one is a half peck and is wonderful! The color is deep and you can still read most of the lettering on the side of the pail. Riveted iron bands hold the sides firmly in place. I believe this one in European or possibly Canadian. I can't quite make out all the words on it's side. It measures 7.75" tall, 7.5" in diameter. There are a couple of chips in the wood and marks from age and use. The wood base is split, but all there. These look great filled with kitchen utensils, loaves of bread, flowers or anything else for that matter.
