On offer, is a wonderful, early Spanish sampler, dated 1831. This piece is framed, under glass, and is as found. This measures almost 16" long and almost 11" tall. The back of the frame is wood and then paper. The frame is old but not as old as the sampler. I have not removed the sampler from the frame. I understand these were made to grace table tops originally. The material appears to be linen. There are two thin lines that are slightly darker, from being stored folded at some point. The words below the centre panel read Lohizo B. Lanod. 1831. I understand that Lohizo translates to Made By. The centre panel is full of interesting objects, a Garden Scene, a bird in a tree, a key, a Black male figure, basket of flowers, a rooster, a girl with a basket, either a horse or dog and other motifs. The top has a motif of a couple holding hands. There are some darkened areas. The top and bottom borders are different, the two side borders are the same. There is a stitched black line around the piece. The colours of thread used are black, green and cream. This is a nice piece that displays beautifully.
